The plot of Shadow The Hedgehog unfolds with Shadow reflecting on his past as the invasion of Westopolis by an alien race known as The Black Arms unfolds. Black Doom emerges, demanding that Shadow deliver the promised seven Chaos Emeralds. Shadow faces three choices: aiding The Black Arms in their invasion of Earth. Or assisting Sonic and GUN in thwarting the Black Arms, safeguarding the Ark while regarding himself as a failed experiment. Or confronting and defeating The Black Arms and their leader, Black Doom.
In terms of gameplay, Shadow The Hedgehog allows players to exclusively control Shadow, akin to his gameplay in Sonic Adventure 2: Battle. Alongside homing attacks, players wield various firearms and can pilot diverse vehicles. The game offers three branching paths: good, evil, and neutral. Evil missions involve collaborating with the Black Arms, while good missions entail aiding Sonic & friends and GUN. The neutral route simply directs the player towards the goal circle.
